Hey guys, mate caught this while we were out last night under the bridge at Bribie, any ideas? it has a black marking on it's tail that you can make out in the picture. Initially thought it was moses perch, but after getting it in the boat could see that it clearly wasn't, so not sure, haven't caught it before, was just under 30cm, cheers.

Steve.

Think I may have answered my own question :)

Appears it is a Crimson Seaperch otherwise known as Large Mouth Nannygai, cheers.

Yep, the markings on the ' saddle ' of the tail give it away. The bugga is lost.

lost????????,,,,nah just on hoilidays

its still amazes me what comes out of the water at times in the passage,,,i've seen snapper caught,,,jewies,,tuna,,etc etc,,

and all whilst i've watched em being pulled in,,,,not doubting that the anglers caught them elsewhere and claimed them in the passage

nice catch steve,,,,well done

Yep - it shows climate change is happening - it may be a seasonal flux, i.e. occassional happening, but in talking around the traps more Red Emperor and Coral Trout have been caught at places like Hutchies, Shallow Tempest, etc. These are not rare but are becoming more common.

Definately a Nanny. Have caught them before offshore around sunshine coast.
Got a bag of them last week .... but a little further north than the bribie bridge ;) ;D

small and large mouth are sometimes hard to split. Small mouth have the top jaw shorter than the distance between the end of their dorsal fin and the end of the anal fin, large mouth the jaw is equal or longer tghan this distyance
