Ummmmmmmmmmmm - this is a trick question I know! :-/ :-/ :-/

Like ah, you have a model choice of:
1. Colour
2. Black and white

All colour units basically have the same red/blue/green that gives you all shades therein and black & white gives you, ummmmmmm black & white?? Mono I think they call it ......................

................. or did you mean the brand name such as Hummingbird, Furuno, Lowrance etc?

G'day mjc,

Cant go past the Garmin 172c in that price bracket. I have one in flamin' riptide and its fantastic - very easy to use, moves between screens and pages with ease, it makes sence the way it works, log new marks automatically in alphabetical order, keeps marks grouped together, has nearest mark feature, good ancillary info with tide times, moon phase etc...I've had furuno and navman in our last boat...not a patch on the Garmin. The Garmin chartography is very detailed and accurate. I was talking to Jason at Sundown Marine this week, he said that Garmin have dropped their prices on that unit recently so you should be able to pick up a bargain...give him a call 32033007...they are an ausfish sponsor and they do look after ausfishers

cheers

What about in the $1000- $1200 price bracket, would it be worth making my price range bigger or is the garmin 172c as good as the chartplotters in this price bracket? What do you get for the extra dollars?

I've got a Garmin 182C that I'm very happy with. I've been told they're on runout now, but haven't checked. You might save a few dollars.

MJC85,

Have you received your new trailcraft yet? My trailcraft is about 1 week away from arriving in Brisbane. Probably another week for fitout. Can't wait.

I ended up choosing the Garmin 172C. Sundown gave me a good price and certainly seems to have good features although I haven't used it in anger yet?

cheers
