Has anyone heard of or had any experience with, the humminbird Matrix 37? I can get one of them for $500 at the moment. Are they worth it?
Was wondering if the quadrabeam is as effective as Humminbird maintains?
cheers

i had one in my fresh water punt and it worked extremely well picking up thermoclines and the showing of fish in both alpine and native impoundments. it is now however in the ocean going boat and it picks up bottom in decent detail over three hundred metres and shows good detail on the inshore reefs and picks up schools of bait fish no worries out and beyond the shelf. never really used the side imaging function of it however. for 500 hundred i dont think that you can go wrong

I have just purchased the latest version of this product which is the 700 series - 737. Waiting for it to arrive. sIts the same as the 37, only visual differences and made to be mounted into boats a lot better. Where can you purchase it for $500....cause thats a bloody great price???? Maybe i shouldn't be asking...lol
Its a great unit, i personally think for what you get for the money YOU are paying for it....its up there with the best unit for the value your paying.

i think you have to buy a special transducer to actually use quadrabeam...

I saw one of these down at Springwood Marine the other week... They are certainly intersting! I do love the 3D imaging it gives you... Makes it alot easier to understand what the bottom looks like...
If I had to change sounders, I would consider this for sure.

You'll find the unit you were looking at in 3D mode was not the matrix 37 model. But unless there a 3D 37 model...i stand to be corrected...

I have the Matrix 37 (x actually as its the metric version)
No 3D on there.
Never used the side view function its probably ok in shallow areas and impoundments but I fish offshore so forget it there. imo
Great to have a decent sounder and GPS tracking in one and can mark off the screen when its in pause mode.
Poltergeist...300M! Holy crap mate, no I would not think this was the ideal unit for 300M work but up to the 36's its fine. Mind you I have not compared with the Forunos and the JRC but I would expect a different league there.
just my humble opinion though.

Thanks for your input and advice guys. A quick question. Can I use my Garmin12 GPS with the Matrix 37 or is it superfluous?
cheers

yes you can connect the garmin 12 GPS to the matrix 37. You will need to buy a garmin cord and then a humminbird cord to allow them to talk to eachother. (2 cords connected) Cheap alternative then buying the GPS receiver if you already have the GPS. I have done this and works a treat. Roddy
