Lowrance iFinder Go?

I am looking at purchasing a ifinder go from the US. I was speaking to a man in a shop saying that GPS units that come from the states are only setup for northern hemisphere and will not work correctly in the Southern hemisphere.

I find that very hard to believe but maybe he is right. Does anyone know if this is correct.
