Guys, some help please. I just bought an Eagle Cuda 168 for my tinny (tiller steer) and the lead from the transducer to the sounder is way too long. Looks like I will have to coil the lead and keep it under the side deck. Will coiling the lead produce interference or is it ok? There would be too many hassles to cut and rejoin the lead. Cheers Winston.

Hi Winston,
I put the same sounder in my tinny last year and found the same thing. I ran the cables in some thin pvc ducting and just layed them in there back and forwards using up the excess.
No problems with interference and it looks pretty neat.
Regards
Steve

Do NOT is in NOT cut the antenna!
Tuck it away out of sight and a handful of coils will not hurt it at all.

1. Fish Finders do not have an "antenna"
2. If it did there is nothing wrong with cutting it
3. Antenna and transducer cables can be shortened as well as lengthened
4. Main problem with cutting is that cables have specific modular connections so cutting generally requires re-joining, which could allow moisture and interference if not done properly
5. The problem with cutting is that it will be short one end next time

While it is ok to cut a GPS antenna or VHF and antenna connectors are readily available. It is not advisable to cut and try to shorten a transducer cable by splicing them. Most manfufacturers if not all advise against it.
