Hi guys I have a problem with my lowrance x49, there is moisture under the glass and I can't get it to work. When I turn it on the light flashes a few times then nothing so I would like to take her apart to see inside, but there are no screws are they hiding under a label ?

cheers

Had a similar problem with an Eagle Sounder that developed a rattle within. I lifted every label and there were no screws to be seen, given that this sounder was buggered I got the hacksaw out and cut the casing around to get inside. There were no screws holding the thing together rather worked on a sealed arrangement. The rattle was a capacitor that had worked loose but given the entry method the sounder was sent to the bin.
Perhaps your Lowrance has the same seal.

Regards Cameron.

Bugger :'( more bloody money, nice of them to make things that you can't fix throw it away and buy a new one, good way for lowrance to get rich.

this is what i did to my eagle when i got water under the screen after using the buttons in sheeting rain when crabbing once

i put it on top of the garden shed to get nice and warm until the fog disappeared from the screen - i took it down & immediately applied a vaccum cleaner to each button as i pressed it down and around the seal, i sucked for about 15min. It worked for me.

G'day
I had my previous 2 lowrances replaced under warranty. All because of moisture in behind the screen. Chris... you are a genius.

Oceantalk as Raymarine importer cannot repair DS400, 500 and 600 Sounders in Australia, so they are no better than Lowrance. Do you have information that Oceantalk have repair capacity in Australia now?

Thanks chris I will give that a go, but the display is not working so I guess internal damage has already happened. It will turn on and every now and then a few little black lines come up but only last for a second or two then a blank screen again.

I also had the same problem with an Eagle which had moisture for a while before failing. I too cut it open only to find that the circuit board had gone green with corrosion.

If you are a saltwater user and you get moisture in there then it seems it is only a matter of time before failure.

Best take it straight back under warranty or get the moisture out as quick as you can I reckon. Having cut one open before, if out of warranty, I would consider drilling 2 small holes in the back next time to blow it out with dry air before sealing it up again, you have gotta beat the corrosion.
