Have to agree Garry. The Garmin 172C is IMO, a great GPS unit, for a number of reason, but most inmportantly, it's USER FRIENDLY.

Landed a 172C from the States just over a year ago for 750, but I believe you can do much better now. I bought the Blue Chart here at the Jonny shop in Brisvegas. ;)

Budget, size of unit, ability to use unit and intended use, are the important questions one must ask ones self. But you have done well to ask here, as there will be lots of good info flowing.

Hi, was going to look in Aus but where ever i can buy cheaper would be better. Phill you got 1 from over seas, how did you manage to get a hold of it?
Ability to use 1 hopefully wont be a problem but then again i have been know to mess things up. I mainly fish dams at the moment but am looking to move towards salt water soon.

thank you gents

Matt, went to Ebay and searched for it. found an on-line tackle shop that has a 'actual store ", and went from there.

There is of course only one drawback from purchasing it in the US of A, and that is warranty. They are a RTB ( Return to Base ) style and would have to be returned to USA for a claim / repair. Having said that, I , to this date, have not heard of a 172C being faulty or in need of a warranty claim.

Let us know how you go ???

Cheers Phill

I have a Lowrance 337C DF which I find to be reliable and easy to use. Great resolution on 480 x 480 screen.

Hi all, thanks for the help folks. I'm not sure yet if I went the right direction but end up buying a Humming Bird Matrix 17. I was only chasing gps but some of the systems were a little costly and to much thought involved in the use side. The demo i was given seemed easy to use and also backs up as an extra sounder for my boat when not needing the gps side. It isnt mappable or anything like that but only shows way points which is all I need i think. Came in at $680 from BCF in Toowoomba.

Thanks Again Gents

Matt
