Hi all,

I just purchased my first ever sounder (Humminbird Matrix 17X) and this will be fitted to my hobie kayak.

But now I need help with a decent battery and waterproof case to power it.

Any suggestions?

Chris

It's all about current draw

Look in you instructions and find how much current your sounder draws

Batteries are marked in Amp hours

10 amp hour battery supplies 10 amps for 1 hour, or 5 amps for 2 hours, or 1 amp for 10 hours. Before they need re charging

Match your current draw, to your time use, to battery size.

Go for a gell cell maybe.

Ditto alim088

go for an AGM battery, they're sealed and maintenance free. Look at Absorbed Power or others. I have a 40amp/hr, and it runs the sounder for nearly 2 days (1Ah drain), its a Raymarine DS400.
I've never run it that long, just going on the specs, its also connected to lights, pump etc, so not exactly sure.
Not sure how small they make them, but a 40Ah might suit you.
