Hi
I need some help in selecting a GPS unit or Mapper? what are the pros and cons with them.
I dont plan on going too far out of sight as yet.
Thanks

Mate,
for not much more you could get a very nice colour GPS...I know pricing on the Garmin 172c has been reviewed and currently retails under $900...with the boat show coming up...who knows what deal you may be able to get...could be worth checking out...a couple of years back I replaced a Furuno gp31 that got nicked with a navman 550i...bought on price alone...biggest mistake I made...hated using that unit...
Others may have their ideas but I reckon its worth hanging out for good electronics these days.
Cheers

Budget GPS that works,
Garmin 72, $300 for the unit, well worth spending the extra on the mount & 12volt connector.

Whatever unit you get, I recommend that you get the cable/card, software etc so you can manage your waypoinys easily with your PC. Hand helds make it easy as you can bring your GPS unit to your PC.
I own both a Raymarine chartplotter, and a Garmin handheld. Goto say the Garmin are very easy to use and will by my next GPS.

Just start using it on the water. The best investment beside the Minn Kota foot control for the impoundments in Qld. Would not be without it.
