Anyone had any experience with these units and the 642C GPS (dual freq) finder combo in particular?

The specs seem good including the resolution.

Mine arrived from the states this week, will be installing the transducer on the weekend. It came with a transom mount but am going to attempt to set it up as a shoot through hull.

I have tried it at home with a Nautic Path chart, am happy with it so far, will give it a good run on the weekend and let you know.

Cheers,

Lee

Leezor,
I have been looking at the Eagle Seacharter 642 Combo. I was keen to get one from the States also. What was the best price you found and who did you go through. I am interested to hear your thoughts after a test run. They appear on paper to be a top little unit.

Got it from ###### Imports, paid for it on the Monday, got it the following Monday delivered to my door for $960 $au

I decided on the combo unit as it only an extra $200 than the stand alone GPS unit and figured if I want a stand alone sounder I can get it later.

I was quoted almost $1700 for the same unit here, and since Lowrence offer fixed price repairs in Australia took a punt with the warranty.

Will give it a run tomorrow once I have mounted the transducer.

Has anyone had much luck using transom mount transducers as a shoot through hull config?

G'day leezor, can't see why a transom trany woudn't work as an in-hull.
I'm no expert, but the insides would be similar surely, with the casing different.
Try it first with a big blob of sikaflex, you should be able to ascertain if it'll work before the sika goes off.

Ended up using Sikaflex to mount the transducer to the inside of the hull, holds bottom at all speeds even WOT which is around 80km/h according to the GPS.
The Nauticpath charts detail is not as good as the C-Map NT+ which I had running on a Navman Tracker 950 on my last boat, however the Eagle unit is much quicker at refreshing pages and the resolution is much better.
Considering the chart was free, i can't complain.
