NO

You can't connect NMEA 0183 to NMEA 2000!

BUT

You can connect the Furuno 0183 to the Lowrance 0183!

Does your Lowrance power cable have Blue,Yellow, Orange & a shield wire? These are the NMEA 0183 connections.

Regards, Kerry.

Hi Kerry, thanks for the reply

I haven't actually bought the Lowrance unit yet ..i wanted to make sure it was compatible before purchasing ..it was my first choice before the Navman 5500 because as i understand it the navionics gold charts which the lowrance use are better than the c-map+ the navman uses??Theres so much choice it gets confusing :-? If it was your choice which way would you go?

cheers
Pete

My Choice? neither 8-) However the most important thing is to first decide the best chart (which you have obviously done) that best suits your purpose, cover your area etc then go for your best choice of box to run it.

Hello pete i have the 5605 navman with c map+ and have seen the navtronics map side by side and can tell you the difference is sooooooooo minor it is not a issue. I also think the makers of the c map also make the navtronics cards . cheers Adz

Im open to suggestions for any option that would be better in my price range, chartplotters are a totally new concept for me from the garmin 72 which im using at the moment :)
to be honest i m still trying to work out what advantage there even is in linking the chartplotter to the sounder :-/
thanks again
Pete

Well Pete if it's a budget thing and that is your final two then it would be the Lowrance.

Connection capabilities really depend on your requirements and how to intend/want to use them. If the sounder has Nav capabilities then you can display/see both bottom and position on the one screen. If the GPS can store depth with waypoints/trackpoints then depth can be sent from the sounder.

One of those things to do for different individual reasons.
