Howd ya go fatty? ??? I think that may be too deep i would say around 3 - 6 meters deep over the weed beds would be the shot, Lachie

As Lachie said over the weed beds.
And sunrise and sunset has always worked for me with a start and stop retreive and let it sink a bit.
Also some tuna oil on the jig sometimes helps.
Cheers Kev
PS, I love eating squid.

Fatty,

I have been catching squid and cuttle fish in good number lately just off the leads coming out of the Wellington Point ramp. Last time I went out I came home with 7kg of squid and cuttlefish. The best way I have found to catch them is just to use your normal jig (blue ones seem to be the best) and then just run a 30cm piece of line with a small 50g snapper or ball sinker. This way it keeps the jig off the floor and you dont get as much crap (weed) on the end. I have also found that cuttle fish is better eating than squid. I also soak the cuttle fish or squid in salty milk for a half an hour before cooking, as this makes them more tender. Cheers.

Do squid go quiet over winter or are they an all year round proposition?

Winter is when I tend to target Squid, usually off Woody Point Pier.
