Mate used to live there. you'll catch Dart off the beaches along with some nice WHITING and good BREAM. BOULDER BEACH, top FLATHEAD and still a few TAILOR at the moment. JEWFISH behind the RSL at night on live poddies. Try the South Wall for bream and on a calm day the LUDERICK are busy there so get some good weed, most of all check out DAVE'S BAIT AND TACKLE. The staff will help you with Most of your Questions and they have top bait and all the good stuff to checkout. I dare you to just buy what you need and not walk out with an impulse buy like a lure. If the weather turns nasty checkout the Ballina bowls club for a top feed at the bistro and the staff on the bar are real genuine. Just ask the staff you'll get some good information on the whereabouts of the top spots like beside the Ex-Services for giant flathead [ snorkelled over the stormwater pipes and look down at the monsters] Tell them Shannon from Security told you to ask around ask for BLACKY [John Black] or Big Matt. Low tide go for a walk up the river around the bend near the Canal bridge for good FLATHEAD. Try the river near the trawlers marina. Out front of the surf club gets some good bream and dart and you can find worms and pipis around the south wall on low tides if your looking for the fresh baits. Nippers are also on the flats near the marina. I will be down there again to fish and spearfish in two weeks I will have a chat to the guys at the bowls to see if you've called in!!

Ballina has so many things going for itself with the fishing stakes are you land based, boat [ river or offshore] on a budget, camping, caravanning. What are you after. There's jew, blackfish, bream, whiting, tailor, flathead, mullet, man grove jack, trevally, dart and that's just available from the shore based fishing not to mention the off shore game fishing and top catches of snapper, mangrove jack, pearl perch, coral trout you name it they're out there. How long you staying? got time to explore? fill me in on what you got and what your after and I should be able to help you!!!

Hi seahorse, I live in Ballina & manyrods has given you heaps of good advice, only problem is we've had a flood & all you will get in the river just now is dogfish( forktailed catties), I'd try the beaches instead, good luck , Muzz.

I was down there last week and there's been even more heavy rain upstream since then, all we managed was a few small lizards and a couple of bream, no point even putting a line in that brown stuff, even our fresh live worms didnt get a look in at north creek, water was sparkling clear and perfect looking bank, but not a whiting or bream or dart in sight. good luck m8, the fresh should be gone soon. Love Ballina, top spot.
cheers,
Karl.

Even outside is lousy at the moment, we fished broken head to east 32 yesterday, wave rider & the new FAD for 6 lousy flatties, 3knt current on the 32s & barely a touch all day. Muzz

Heard of a few coming in off south wall, but it's really hard to get good livies in the brown murk, would be a good time to pull the feathers out perhaps??? Muzz

We have big tides this coming week, pity they're in the day time...
Jewienewie, even a fresh dead chopper is good, take em out the south wall, fish the very last of the top, then let them suck out into the bar, like let 100yrds or so of line go ( with a big ball sinker, 50c size), & 3 ft trace, or theres always the triangle on north wall in the boat. Muzz
