mate are you going to have a car while your here?
the weirs on ross river all hold barra (aplins would be my pick) but with the start of barra season you`ll have to get there early to get a spot i`d say.
also the rockpool on the strand has been giving up some nice jacks lately on fresh strip baits (try jigging off the strand jetty for fresh bait) and theres always the breakwater near the casino.
If you`ve got a car while your up here i`d take a drive up to toomula :) i`ve been getting some nice queenies off the north headland and i recon you might do ok with livies off it at the moment ;)

If its calm with a morning high tide check out the headlands at Palleranda (live bait preferably). Otherwise I'd suggest 'the lakes' (near Castletown shoppping centre), Louisa Creek, and the saltwater side of Aplins (if you can get a spot). This time of year the wall at Gleesons can be allright too providing there is just enough flow to get rid of some weed but allow access to the wall. Quite a few options really. I've summed up a bit of info in my website at www.freewebs.com/badbubby/townsville.htm that may be of use. Good luck.

If you want a good charter operator, go with Ryan Moody. he is a brilliant operator, but he is often booked out. With this late notice, you would have to hope for a cancellation in his schedule.

I've been put onto some good barra in the burnekin delta by him, and also good reddies out on the shoals beyond maggie.

Top operator. Expensive, but worth the money.
