Hey Guys, watched a dvd on ultimate fishing 2 years ago, on custom sport fishing and decided to give it a go, so i booked well in advance and am flying up to seisia to start fishing with Gary (guru) wright this coming mid April 2006. Everything is booked and paid for and i'm just counting down the days. I spoke to Gary on the phone and we organized this 2 years ago, so he got me the best possible time of year and that week in the month. So having said that, the fishing should be great for Travs,Macks and Queens. Barra on the other hand might be a little slow, but that wont bother me as Awonga Dam is only up the road from me. Has anyone ever done the cape york thing and what is seisia pier like to fish off. I will keep you guys posted and hopefully post some great pics. Regards Grassy.......

We went to Seisia a few years ago and stayed at Seisia lodge. Mostly locals fishing off the pier but one guy was fishing with his own homemade lures and catching big queenies every time. The locals were saying that you can pretty well catch anything from there depending what time of year including huge sharks.
We caught heaps of big queenies on poppers ,a few small barra ,plentyof gt's , salmon (threadfin I think ) and lots of mixed bag others.
Noone seems to want to crab up there (as in the guides ) but we went one day with this guy and asked him about crabbing. He took us to an island and said we should walk up this creek area as you can sometimes pick them up in the shallow water. Didn't get any in the creek so took a shortcut too the beach and someone said " what's that " A big buck in the shallow water !! Then another one and another.
We ended up getting 25 huge bucks caught only with the landing net. we had nowhere to put them so filled up the bait buckets , esky and anything else we could find. At one stage I had the huge landing net so full of crabs I could hardly lift it. The guide(can't remember his name ) was from rod and rifle safaris so had a rifle ready in case we were looking like croc bait. The crabs were well appreciated at dinner that night by us and guests in the lodge.
after we left the island he took us to a spot where we trolled for queenies with poppers. Went thru a huge school and had constant hookups. Excitement plus.
Probably one of the best fishing days everfor me.
Hope you have a ball. Gary wright took a few of our group out and is a very smart operator. Also knows a lot of history about the area.
Cheers
Brad.

saw lots of fished hooked of the seisia jetty one day and every one of them got monstered by big sharks.
only landed one fish off there myself (in about half an hours fishing) and it was the smallest cobia you'd ever see (around 35cms) - looked awesome though
you'll have a ball up there no doubt - especially with a guide the quality of Gary.

Yes you will be in heaven. I spent 12 months travelling Australia fishing the coast with a tinny. The best fishing we had was of Sesia. We camped at Bamaga on the beach front. Had tents pitched inside the Thatched Shelter by the beach.
Every day we went out and came back with a boat full. Most we gave away to the locals in return they let us freeze what we wanted in the local shops freezer. We left back to port Douglas with every esky packed with fillets, what we couldnt fit we gave to the locals.
Gary Wright was looking after the camp ground at the time and gave us some incredible advice that had us catching fish every day.
We spent most days around Possesion Island. We had a spot at the end of Possession Island we called hook up alley. Because we never failed to hook up through there at high or low tide.
We had a ball catching Queenies 2 m off the back of the boat with poppers that Garry gave us. We could watch them attacking the lures.
We spent our time following the Frigates waiting for them to come in low. Then race to the spot we anticipated a burst of bait fish. This method proved very successful and was recomended by Gary.
My next trip is in August to Dundee beach in Darwin I have posted here requesting a bit of local knowledge on Dundee.
We fished onceor twice of the jetty but while we were ther we never really saw any fish of any size caught.
Just out off the point of the Island in front of the Jetty was unreall for big Gar fish. We would stop off here on the way home for a bit of fun hooking gar.
Hope you have fun
Cheers
Anywhere up the cape or in the gulf is good fishing , I have been very spoilt living up here
