Fishing mates

G/day fellas
Have not been back in Qld long and am looking for a couple of fishos to pal up with.My old mates have moved on.Have spent many yeras chasing a career.What a silly idea that was!
Not into clubs but do like my fishing.Have just taken up surffishing again after 30 years. Though retired I do not have 'One Foot In The Grave' live in Maleny and can fish from Bribie to Fraser as the need or fish be.

Good on you mate, I have been thinking about putting up a post like this!

I joined a club a few years back but was disappointed in the trophy hunter mentality, no one would share any info with a new bloke about where to fish etc, but they would hang sh1t on you when you weighed in one whiting !

Never again as they say :(

Hi It always the same once conpertision come in to it out goes the friendship side of things . I have found this to be the case through life .
What a pitty we cant just be friends .
I truly wish the hell with compertision . and get back to good old Friend ship

Shame your not on the Gold Coast.I will never be in a club again or competition, after having fish stolen and weighed in by someone else.I know who did it but couldn't prove it.They were in a keeper bag, so what we didn't eat or want after weigh-in were returned to the dam to fight another day.Funny how fish can get out and then do the knot back up on their way out of keeper bag.Greed is amazing and what some will do to win,silly thing was the fellow that took my fish was a gifted fisherman anyway and didn't need to steal to win.

Thanks for helping me make a decision guys. I bought my first boat recently and I have been thinking about joining a fishing club. 1 to get some more experience and 2 to meet a few people and enjoy the experience with them. After reading what has been said here I will not be joining a fishing club any time soon. I think I will stick to reading what is said here and learning by doing.

It might take me a lot longer to to gain the experience and knowledge im seeking but at least by listening to everyone in Ausfish I know im on the right track. I spent my childhood learning how to catch bream and luderick at the pin around short island with my dad and his fishing mate from work, and drifting around bramble bay for whiting and flathead.

Now I have a boat of my own I am looking forward to learning about reef fishing and catching some snapper and my long time goal of catching some jewies. The amount I have learnt just by reading the advice and catch reports from on here has given me a lot of confidence that I can do it. ;D

My first reef trip is going to be on Wednesday to Scarborough reef. We are going to leave very early and hopfully catch some winter whiting first up to use as bait. I am so looking forward to trying out some of my newly gained knowledge to try and catch my first snapper. ;D
