Greeting ausfishers,

My mate sends me the bizarre pic and thought you may be interested.
The fish was washed from Asia Tsunami in 2004.

Happy guessing

He should really learn to put on some sunscreen in future though. Sunbaking with that type of complexion is a recipe for disaster! :)

Where ever do you drag them up from Silent. That is a "Blob Fish" or "Blob Sculpin" - Psychrolutidae Phrictus.
Ugly sucker.

Blob sculpin can be fished at 550 to 2800m Gee you need a very large winch reel with full spool of braid… $$$:o
Sorry not in Oz water…If you are serious to be mad fisherman to catch Blob and buy a flight ticket to California and find your own charter… ::)

Better website can be found...

Thanks for that silent, what an ugly looking fish.

Surely one of the best things about this site is the diversity of the members & their experience, somewhere in the group there is an answer to most questions, not to mention those who seek out the weird & unusual for us.

I think somebody told me that the email that circulated about all the fish that washed up during the tsunami was not 100% legit.

They were actually real fish but had been photographed over a serious of time and were submitted for some research reasons.

That's what I got told anyhoo. Doesn't make them any more interestingly ugly though. You'd have to take a fillet off one and give it the taste test I reckon.
