For the last few months I’ve been catching these regularly in the Tallebudgera Creek in my cast net off my jetty, I've fished there for years and have not caught them before. They puff up and when released they walk off along the bottom of four fins, not swim. They didn’t worry me before but since we are swimming a lot now with the warmer weather I’m worried about standing on them, what are they and are they venomous?

Cheers Nathan

nmk,,,,, its time to move house!!!!!!!!

i had to look twice at first,,, but they are called correctly,,, striped anglerfish,,,

the water around your jetty must be okay if you've been catching them on a regular basis,,

these things like dark deep water,, and of course the ""food chain"" where they hang out is dependable on them being there 1 minute or gone the next

choppa

ps,,,,,,,great for an aquarium??????,, dunno how they would go,,, i once saw 1 in a sydney aquarium store,,,from memory,,, about $70,,, but that was a while back,,, and is was a tad bigger

Thanks for the help.

Choppa ive been catching them in only shallow water which is the weird thing, not the deep. They are sitting in empty sting ray lays, around the jetty and in the weed bed.

Fantastic to see while diving. I'm always on the lookout for them. They take great photos underwater. Sometimes they will swim away from you, but mostly they hop. Other fish will follow them around once their disguise has been foiled.

Yea ive seen people catch the bull sharks around the corner from my house and seen them pop up now and then. I've grown up on the water so they don't worry me, i just stay out of the water in the early morning, late afternoon and night. Im out on the water at least 4 arvos a week and during the weekend and havn't seen them that much. only now and then.
