Why isn't my new topic marked new

I have noticed whenever I start a new thread it doesn't seem to have the word 'new' next to it like all the other ones.

I can't seen any 'new' button on the top of the page when I am writing the new thread so am I doing something wrong here?

The thread is not new to you as you started it and obviously have read it.

It will show up new to people that haven't read it yet as it is new to them.
