Have done some research into Avid-fisher who recently spammed this site. #The IP and email used by this person is a known spammer from Hawaii who regularly seeks out YaBB Boards such as this to spam.

There was some suggestion that this was a banned memer of Ausfish.

I can assure everyone that this person was not anyone previously associated with or banned from Ausfish.

seems like you have gone to alot of trouble to find this out? I would hope that a banned member would'nt bother spaming the site if they wished to rejoin later on 8-)

Been a lot of angst lately and wanted to put it to rest.

I'm glad you guys found who was responsible. Do you know if the authorities are going to stop him or take action against him? It's rediculous that a "KNOWN SPAMMER" is able to keep getting away with causing trouble. If he's a "KNOWN SPAMMER" then why don't they charge him and fine him into oblivion so people don't have to put up with his nonsense?

Anyway, good job finding the culprit! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I hope the authorities nail his sick-o hide to a wall! Posting garbage like that on a family site! [smiley=hanged.gif]

From what I can find out YaBBers all over the world are after this person. He's good.

At this time vigilance only and banning the name as it starts. He seems to hit with about 350 posts a time.

amazing how some of these computer people get their kicks from annoying others...eg this spammer, those that write viruses and trojans and also hackers. If they are so good at their computer skills, why don't they write something usefull and sell it and make some big bucks. Under their present modus operandi all they are facing is a huge fine or jail if caught. Certainly does not make any sense to me.

I am guessing that the message attached below is as a result of a tactic that Steve has taken to stop such a gross influx of spam.

Unfortunately, it hampers searches of the chat boards a fair bit because if you search on a word and get no response and then try again with another word, it does not allow the search for a few minutes.

I have struggled with this a few times in the past couple of days. I was just now searching under the word pressure and when getting no result, tried to search under washer and received this message.

Steve- is it possible to allow more frequent searches or does the preventative measure blanket all activity automatically?

Regards..........

There is a lot of talk and some evidence that these weirdo's who write virus's and do spam do so to keep their jobs, ie, they are also the people employed by the major companies who sell anti virus and anti spam software.

My Brother worked in the USA for 5 years for some of these big companies and whilst he wouldn't say it with certainty when I asked him about it he said it was more than plausible

Think about it, if they came up with an absolute product that stopped everything, they would be out of work and the company would go out of biz ! :o

This is just one of the measures that were put in place to protect the members. The time was set at 4 mins but was put back to 1. Sadly everyone ends up being inconvenienced because of one idiot.

We may never have a problem again and this may be able to be removed, will see how things go.

Thanks for all the efforts in the location of the problem, and contoling the bad feeling it's getting a little out of control.
