How do I upload my own personal picture (Avatar)

To display your own personal pic (Avatar) the pic must be less than 20kb in file size and no more than 110 pixels wide. If it is wider than 110 pixels it will be resized and may not look as good as you intended it to.

Go into your profile by clicking on the "Member CP" link in the top menu. Then click on the "Edit Profile" link.

Once you are in your profile click on "Edit Avatar" link.



NOTE - image can only be .gif, .png, .jpg or .jpeg and must be under 20Kb



If your old avatar is still displayed after you have made changes it would probably be due to the fact you are using Internet Explorer (IE). IE will Cache the original avatar on your computer. You will need to Refresh your browser to force it to load the new pic/info from the server. Sometimes you need to hold the Shift key down while you click on Refresh to force it to load the new pic.

Steve - I have setup my own webpage so I can host some pictures there, including my avatar pics (Rather than you having to upload them all the time!).

I put in the address of "http://www.freewebs.com/fishin_dan/FishinDanAvatar.jpg" in, and click Change Profile.

Then I go into a post I made, hit CTRL+R (I'm using Firefox - so instead of SHIFT+F5), and the avatar flashes up, but then dissappears....

The file is about 11Kb, and I resized it to be 100 pixels wide. However it just doesn't seem to stay there...

Any ideas mate?

I have also tested this in Internet Explorer as well now. Did a SHIFT+F5, but only showed with the red cross in it... Right clicked, and looked at the properties of the image:- Address looked fine. Copied it out from there, and pasted it into the address bar of another browser (Also IE). Picture showed up fine...

They most likely have a block on outside domains accessing the file.

Some free web host do this to save band width. If you open a new window and just paste the url in it will work. But if it is called fro from ausfish it will get blocked.

Probably best to use your free server space with your ISP or find another free host.

As Steve said if you can find a free host you only need to link to the relevant URL on the Options section of your profile. Admittedly I have my own domain so it's a bit easier than using Imageshack :).

Hi Rose,

I got bored of waiting for the glitch to be fixed, so this is how I got around it.

1. create avatar photo and save in a easy to remember place(must be less than 20kb, and 110 pixels wide)

2. open your browser(second one) in a new window. ie one for ausfish and one with your home page.

3. log onto # http://users.imagevenue.com/host.php in the second browser window# and register, create your own folder, and upload your avatar to this folder. This site is free for hosting your photos :) :) :)

You may not need to register, but by doing so and createing your own folder, it's much easier to find your photo.

4. once done, you'll have a screen that gives you links for different tasks. Copy url for photo, not the one for posting on a forum. Third option down I think.

5. in ausfish open your profile to the modifly page. Tick the box for "I have my own pic". in the space provided delete "http//", #then paste the URL in the space.

6. at bottom of page click "change profile" and vola. # ;) :o. Go to where you have posted before and refresh page. You should now see your pic in your profile.

If I've stuffed up somewhere or you are having problems, just PM me, only too happy to help(can't go fishin in this gale)

Just guessing here, but I'm assuming that if you were to go and make yourself a free dynamic ip addy at somewhere like no-ip.com and run duc each time your ip address changed that you could host a picture on your local computer.

Step 4 is erronous :'( :'(

When you initially upload photo you get a page with 4 links on it. copy and paste the last link ( Direct link to your photo ) into your profile page.

If you login latter, and open the "get link code" you need the last link. Currently it is not displaying correctly, showing a box with a cross in it. Click on box (this opens a new page) then copy the URL in your address bar and paste into profile as per previous.

Sorry to have caused frustration :-/ :-/

Just changed mine 3 times and worked fine.

The only time it failed was when I purposely did not click on the "Select checkbox if you choose Personalized Picture accessible from another server, or upload from you PC" check box.

After you click on change Profile you will be sent to the PM Preferences page.

The file will show as 19k but will actualy be 19,xxx. When this is then uplaoded in Binary mode via the Internet it will read over 20k.

Just reduce the size of the file a bit and all will work fine

Looks like there was a bug in the script. For some reason though everytime I tried it it worked, except for today when I tried to add Jungles avatar. I think it is fixed now, will see when Jungles tests it out.

Sorry to do this to you.... tried to change my avatar - just to see if it would work from my side... and I dont think it did... now I think I have nothing - using explorer (on this computer) I get the old one - even after a forced refresh and on the other computers using both explorer and firefox get an xed out picture or the ausfish logo (which isnt such a bad thing - just frustrating) Can you check to see if I have the picture below on file as my avatar... please???

You also have an Underscore in the file name. Just use standard Alphanumeric characters.

You are trying to upload a bmp file.

You will need to convert it to one of the allowed file types, I would also suggest you take out the underscore "_" in the file name.

Sorry to have to ask this guys but I'm tryin to resize a pic of the boat, But for some reason ( i have asked the computer whiz son and the wife) but can't seem to get it under 20kb. The pic starts out at 2.88mb i have got it down to 33kb but it is sooooo small, using infraview as per this thread. Can anyone shed some light on this for me ( not computer minded ) give me metal and i'll make anything you want but computers i got no hope....lol

Sorry but not much I can do to help you. If you have followed the instructions to the letter it will work. Maybe you have missed a step or done one step slightly different. Difficult to help when I can't see you do it.

Maybe post up the pic you have here, resizing it to at least post on the foums, and I will see what I can do for you.

Sorry but not much I can do to help you. If you have followed the instructions to the letter it will work. Maybe you have missed a step or done one step slightly different. Difficult to help when I can't see you do it.

Maybe post up the pic you have here, resizing it to at least post on the foums, and I will see what I can do for you.

Hi its Sandra here Gregs Wife; we can't get the attachment to open. It comes up as a red cross, when you right click on the attachment it doesn't give the option to open it, it just says show picture however, the picture will not open anyway and also I can't save it to try and open it with a different program either.
