Bad PR for all Fisho's

While the full facts are yet to emerge, it seems like some lunatic pros were responsible for shooting 100 fur seals off Victoria. Presumably because the seals reduce their catch, because they eat fish too.

Non fisher people are going to think that all fishermen are environmental rapists and the "cruel" tag that PETA tries to label us with is true. Resonsible fishing groups should quickly condemn this behaviour and distance ourselves from it ASAP.

The seals apparently steal their baits. No excuse though. Lucky there were some students on the island to see and report them. You wonder how often something like this goes unreported.

Two years ago was in Sth Aust (I think it was there) and there was a local identity called Sammy the seal. He had his own monument at the start of the jetty and people fed him and he was a local pet. Some mongrels knifed him to death one night. Dont think they ever caught them.

If this slaughter took place, I in no way condone it.

Being in the bush, don't get the paper all that often, but try to
keep up with radio and tv news and of course the net.
The only aerial footage I saw showed what appeared to be live
seals on a large bare rock face, does that sound like the same
footage, because those seals looked live to me.

As per my last post, the police could not find any dead seals and
no charges had been laid, that was last I heard and the story seems
to have been dropped, or have I missed something.
