I was speaking to a fellow fisherman yesterday, he informs me that a new legislation has been secretly put through parliment stating that you are only allowed to have one fully rigged rod, per person, per boat. Can anyone verify if this is correct. You can have any number in the boat, but only one rigged at a time. This seems stupid!!!
Thanks in advance,
Andrew. :-? :-? :-?

I have heard that rumour...one perosn one rod.........urban myth if you ask me.
IMHO on top of the proposed closures, would be political suicide for any pollie that tried to get it through..... :P :(

I believe this is the case now in Hervey Bay yellow zones. All other rods must be completely dismantled - not just unrigged, but reel removed from the rod.
Yes, it was the BEATTIE Govt that did this, and next it will be coming to Moreton Bay.

I sent an email to the premier protesting about the Moreton bay closures.
I recieved a response telling me about a couple of things.
basicaly that the Government has a proven track record in ensuring recreational fishers retain access to our Marine Parks blah blah blah–
the creation of the State Marine Park adjacent to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park is a case in point as is the recently finalised Great Sandy Marine Park that has provided access to recreational fishers to 96% of the Park.
(from this site this I have got the idea that this isn't exactly true - maybe access doesn't = fishing)
All these various zones are there to frighten people of. the more complicated you make something the more confused people are and they won't take a perceived risk on some thing that they don't understand.

Gentlemen, my take on this topic is as follows.
It is an old adage that if you repeat a statement often enough, eventually people will believe it to be true, even if it is in fact, a lie.
Unfortunately, opportunistic a'holes make use of this truism constantly.
It is my belief that the current situation in NSW at least is a limit of 4 rods per angler, I must admit I have no knowledge of QLD regulations.
I could see that a rumour of this nature would be typical of something that would originate from the radical green area, and would be typical of their divide and rule, thin edge of the wedge, re-arrange the facts style, shall we say 'representing the truth in another way', to further their own interests.
As Ben Harper says you have to fight for your mind, and the truth is the scarcest and most precious commodity of all, someone is always trying to take advantage of honest, trusting folk who make up the majority.
Fortunately, the majority of Australians consider angling a national and historic pastime, and long may our collective common sense rule!
For this sleight of hand to have been enacted without the consultation of stakeholders, (most particularly the general public, as appears to be the case), is political opportunism at its worst, IMO.
Beattie, I suggest (and most sincerely hope) may pay the most severe price for his indescretions, karma baby!
What p888es me off most is this guy is supposed to be a Labour Party leader, representing the 'working class' ie me!
Good luck, Queenslanders, in giving him the bum's rush!
Cheers!

Madmix is correct.
The great sandy straits marine park legislation came into effect today 1 sept. One rod / one hook in yellow zones. Look closely at the map, its goes the entire length of the east coast of fraser. :o

Nigelr,
There is no limit on the number of rods you can carry in NSW. I think in some trout waters you can on fish with one rod at a time, but you can carry as many as you like in these waters also.

I'm simply amazed at this stuff!! :(
I first saw a notice in the Courier Mail last week about this new Marine Park, which was the first bit of official stuff I've ever seen. Now it's law apparently.
How did it get through? Was there any debate on it at all in Parliament?
This stuff about the number of rods is unbelieveable!! >:(
Looks like the Greenies have had another win.
Apparently they're going to direct their preferences to Labor. You don't have to be Einstein to work out what grubby deals are going to be done behind closed doors. The whole thing stinks.

I notice nobody has mentioned civil disobedience as a way of dealing with these parks. Its rife in Byron Bay. The locals are driving the 'fun police' or the 'kharki nazis' mad. There is hardly a marine park sign left standing and the locals are fishing the sanctuary zones (they don't have any choice if they want to keep their pastime).

Not having a go at you personally TOL but I cant undertsand people not knowing about this on Ausfish. I have been jumping up and down about it for two years.
Yes, there was debate on it, TFPQ put in a substantial submission, public meetings were conducted, both pros and rec fishers have been jumping up and down.
Unfortunately no-one listened and the Great Sandy Marine Park is the precursor for Moreton Bay Marine Park.
Check out the map at http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/media/parks_and_forests/marine_parks/great_sandy/great_sandy_zoning.pdf
Look at the Green Zones(fishing banned), look at the Yellow Zones (One rod areas) look at the dark blue areas (3 rods), look at the yellow zones with red lines (3 rods yet pros can still net).
Then check out out http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/media/parks_and_forests/marine_parks/great_sandy/great_sandy_designated_areas.pdf and see all the go slow zones and bird migratory zones.
This is the precursor for Moreton Bay and in my opinion it is to late to do anything about it.

In NSW it is under review, also they are looking at the Government overseeing all fishing Competitions.
The rule in NSW is three rods per fisherman actually while fishing, but that is also in the review process.
Marine parks and greenies are getting what they want due to the nature of the current Labor Parties in both states.
Guess they think it is worth more votes.
But they don't realise that a lot of fisherman themselves are the best measure of conservation their is.
They might learn, but it will take a beating at the polls to wake them up.
The more factual publicity that you get to the MEDIA TART, the more he will take notice.
Wish Tom Burns the old labor workhorse was still around the scene, don't think people like that would like to see it happen.
Perhaps we should get some of the Celeb that fish to mention their passion for the Bay.
Andrew Bickel, Matthew Hayden and their mates might be a start.
Anyway wish you all the best and don't believe everything that they throw your way.

The likes of Tom Burns & Ken Vaughan would not have let the "MEDIA TART" get out of touch with the grass roots.
The Great Sandy straits, Moreton Bay ...all the zones and closures ...its a sign of much worse to come I believe unless we cut off the "Head of the Hydra " on polling day ....and KEEP VIGILANT TO KEEP THE BASTARDS HONEST & STOP UNSCIENTIFIC, UNSUPPORTED DECISIONS FROM IMPACTING UPON CURRENT AND FUTURE FISHERS !!!!!!!

This is what I got from the EPA website:
Limited to 1 line/rod per person and 1 hook/lure per line (except the Great Sandy Designated Area which is as per note 4).
Where does it say you have to dismantle your other rods etc???????????
