I am a regular angler at Lake McDonald and was wondering if the area adjecent to the Gerry Cook Fish Hatchery is a camping ground as it has a BBQ and bins set up and is cleared except for some trees, if anyone could fill me in, also was wondering is there any rule against staying out overnight on dams that shut their gates at certain times, ay info much appreciated :D

;) Pretty sure camping is a no goer at Lake McDonald. I suppose it depends on what you define as "camping". If you are awake most of the night fishing, what does that mean? Good luck!

Hi Heaney,
Sent your question to Vince Collis who is one of the great bunch of guys who breed Mary River cod at the Gerry Cook Hatchery & a dedicated fish stocker, here is his reply:
Hi Garry
On Lake McDonald we often fish all night. it is not an official camping ground but the scout camp next door rents sites.
In the case of Pine river dam you are supposed to be of the water by sundown, as for the rest of them I don't know.
Cheers Vince
Not sure where he means by Pine River Dam though, new one on me. ???
Hope that helps, :D
