I am heading to lake somerset next weekend and i was wondering what sort of fee your looking at for 2 people to camp at kirkleigh (not sure of the spelling) and is it okay and safe to leave your boat in the water overnight. ::)

Current price is $15.00 per vehicle per night for up to 6 people. $4.00 per extra person.
If you are boating it will cost you $11.00 for 7 days. No daily fee.
If you are fishing you will need a permit for that as well. I'm not sure of the cost on that one.
Facilities at Kirkleagh are tops, that's for sure.

did they change the price again ??? fishing permits are needed and you can get them at the post office I think they are $35.00 per year . there used to be a boat fee of $5.00 per day 10.00 per three days and $50.00 per year. check the level of water in the dam aas the boat ramp has a cement divider on it and is no fun having to back down it . if you use the area near the ramp walk in first to check for any rocks or other nasty surprises .

They certainly have changed the price of boating fees. The latest brochure from South East Queensland Water for Somerset and Wivenhoe has prices from 1 May 2001. $11.00 week (7 days). $75.00 year. Yearly renewals are $60.00 if paid prior to expiry date. Also overnight boating is $15 night.
Cheers

Went there last weekend. 2 nights with 2 adults and 2 kids plus boating costs $41.00. The level of blue green algae in the dam was also high and the fish had a bit of a tainted taste! Take the heavy duty pegs! ;)

;) Boat in the water is ok overnight, be wary depending on how many peoples is about though! Sense the vibe and see how ya go!

Not worth getting caught. Don't know what the fine would be. Better off paying the fee in the first place.

;) Derek, I think he meant leaving your boat anchored whilst you camp overnight. It's legal to do it, but dunno how secure it would be. Definitely paid the extortionate boating fee! (That weekend was a budget blowout for sure!)

;) Yeah, Saturday night was pretty rowdy! We were in bed by 8pm, but the noise persisted for a few hours! Don't these guys realize peoples who fish like to get up at a sparrow's fart? Sunday night was good, they all went home!!

;) That be mountain goat country, and our boat is definitely not that of a mountain goat! Very beamy and deep, not the sort of unit you carry down a cliff!!! Heard a rumour that that camping area might close ( Somerset Park ). Don't know how true that is. Leslie in mid November, goldens and cod, yeah!

telling them to go to Somerset Park.
Can be quiet down there at times if its not crowded & good fishing along that strech too if you can man-handle the tinny down the bank.
Fitzy...you heard anymore about the closure of Somerset Park. Couple of months ago they were building a number of new fire pits

Hi Derek,
SEQWater Corp were going to close Somerset Park as part of thier rationalization policy. THe Esk Shire Council jumped in & are paying the maintenance & running shortfall for this financial year.
After that is anyones guess. ??? ???
Clear as mud eh.
Also noted that Kirkleagh is advertised as being up for lease. :o
