View Full Version : Fraser
Me and a few mates are thinking of heading to fraser either around christmas or september school holidays. Just wondering how crowded it is at these times of the year, and do you need to book / or get permits in advace. Also i have a 4m hornet and wondering if it would be worth taking it. What would are some fishing posibilities on both sides? If the weather was good and i was going to head offshore how far do you need to go to find the fish or reefs? Thanks.

Guru,
You've picked the two busiest times of the year. Permits are not a problem but finding a camping spot could be, especially if you plan to stay in one of the designated camping grounds or a rented house.
Waddy point is full as in the September school holidays and pretty busy over Chsistmas. It's the best place to launch the boat. The reef's aren't out very far -2 km is the closest but obviously the better fishing is out wider. Mackeral in summer is an option in the tinny.
Obviously everything relys on the weather. Last year we camped at Waddy the first week in October and there were around 20 boats there. We were there for 10 days and only few boats managed to get out on one day.
You can be unlucky.
Great sport though
