Hello Dave
Mate, check out the article on the Going Fishing Board under 1770 Easter and you will find some good info on that area. Lucky Phil has also posted some good photos of the area.
I have yet to go there to stay, only had a quick day trip there a few years ago. One of the many things I have planned for when I get back to Oz at the end of May.
Cheers
Derek
I can't give you up to date information but when our kids were young about 15 to 20 yrs ago we used to go to 1770 every school holidays and camp in the council camping area. We never noticed any sandflies however we were told that the camping area in the bush had a few. The creek fishing at 1770 then was pretty poor so I would expect it would be worse now.
Fishy,I've camped there plenty times and love the place.BUT! I will not go there again during school holidays because the place is just too crowded. As my family is now grown up I don't need to go during holidays, but if you have school age children then you most probably don't have an option but go during school hols.
I was there last January during the school hols and I hated it because of the crowd.May be I'm getting old, but if you can go at another time I'd wait till then. The council park was booked out so I stayed at Captain Cook, not as picturesque but a bit quiter.Cheers.

I spent 2 weeks up there at easter (yearly trip) Bities were not that bad. I have a 3.75m quinie perfect size. on reasonable days no probs out the front or the other creeks. I stay at the 1770 camping ground. that way boat can stay in the water.

Thanks MICHAELG, I have a Bermuda 3.95m with an 18hp motor & wasn't real sure if it was suited to this area, as I haven't been there before, but have heard & read about the area (other campers & in Modern Fishing). How does 1770 caran park compare with Discovery Coast at Agnes Water.I hope also to check out Bustard Heads on a charter boat.

1770 camping has just finished renovating the toilet/shower block. have not stayed anywhere else so cannot say, sorry.Nothing better than waking up & walking 20m from camp and jump in the boat. on really good days I have taken my boat over to bustard head(just have the right safety gear)
mind you its is in a group and you follow the beach around.
saying this i could not get out the front this year, due to the wind.
Round hill its self has some great rock fishing areas on it
I love the place
I can only say the offshore fishing has been good to us over the last few years but it's almost worth going for the atmosphere of the pub at 1770 and the seafood pizzas there are tremendous.
