G'day Grey,
How are you going to get to Wathumba, if you plan to leave from Urangan in Hervey Bay, you might want to think it over.
I wouldn't want to go in anything less than 5 mts. One thing about Hervey Bay is it's BIG, Bloody BIG.

Bream around all the creeks, net some hardy heads and fish with them, or zoom around the bay with a spinstick looking for tuna, and use tuna as bait and berley on a runin tide at night, often the tuna are in plague proportions, this specimen was caught within 4km of the creek.

hi
gee the fish looks good i went up there 8 months ago from harvey it was just about 10 knot for weekend i thought u protected from the s e if u stay close to frasier and if it was bad could u go down further s of frasier and cross over behind big woody island (if thats wright ).
last time i went we had two colman eskys + 80 l fuel she was full . and camped at that 1 st creek just a few klms up frasier
at a guess i think the weather is gooing to be sweet
looks like fine weather all next week

Grey, id can this idea right now :o For starters coongul creek is 30k short of wathumba, and its not the time of year when you can count on a SE breeze, A westerly wind will bring surf onto the western beach and that is a big possibility. 4wd is the way to get there if you have a small boat.

Hi
I tell you what, I watched a show on TV about Sir Edmund Hillary climbing Mount Everest in 1953. The adventures you plan for yourself make him look like an amateur. But I think he at least knew what he was doing. Stick to the closed estuaries with that boat mate. The Hervey Bay Air Sea Rescue has better things to do than go looking for you somewhere up in Platypus Bay.
I am not being nasty, but I think you should respect the sea a bit more than you do.

Hi Grey
Have to agree with Mackmauler, I towed my 4.3m clark abolone up there a few years ago and the westerlies kicked in after a couple of days, forget about trying to boat home or even go fishing. In those conditions I had enough trouble getting my truck and trailer down the beach!

I've been to Wathumba numerous times from Hervey Bay. My boat is very good on fuel and I take at least 140 litres, I return with about 30 to go and that is when the conditions are very calm. Be sure you know what your doing, have all your safety gear with you including a marine radio. It's best if you go with someone that has been before, and like mackmauler said, this is not the best time of the year for the winds to stay with some easterly in them.
