Gidday, I'm just curious as to what entry fees are applicable to national parks in your local area/state and your thoughts on their introduction? For instance,Kakadu's fee is $16.50 per head/7 days, which isn't to bad if you go for 7 days but is expensive for a days fishing. yearly passes are available for $180.00(approx.)per car, also a bit hexy if you fish the run off a couple times a year.Another park territory locals get slugged is Uluru although the fishing is lousy(except on the mega kingtides). Basically do you think locals should pay?

Hi spool
I was born and bred in N.SW and some N.P's have been user pay for a long timeeeee now. About 17 or 18 years ago I got the sh*ts with Sydney and all it's carp and hopped on a bus to brisbane but back then there was a national park that was user pay's.

Spool if something is free than people will abusive it! that is why the goverment (local, state, federal)put charges on it.

I have no problem with any charge on anything as long as the money goes to helping or improvements of the area that the money is being collected from!!!

Hi everyone. I agree with Wizard on this one.

Here in Qld we dont have to pay to visit National Parks but pay camping fees if staying overnight. Before the introduction of the camping fees the facilities in some were pretty minimul but now they have improved out of sight. The same with State Forest Parks.

When visiting New South Wales National Parks I have to pay a fee which is only a few dollars and I think well worth it. I would also be happy to pay a small fee here in Qld if the money went back into services at the Park.

Those of you who live around south east Queensland would know the National Park at Noosa. Just think of the money that could be reinvested into that park even if they only charged a dollar per person. Some days there are thousands of tourists marching through the place. Mind you it is pretty good as it is and I am not complaining.

I would however, like to see a ranger come fishing inspector placed permanently at the gate 24 hours a day as I have seen on occasions some people, of foreign nationality, with eskis on trolleys collecting the small shellfish off the rocks after dark. (Had my mobile with me that night ;D ;D ;D ;D) Maybe a user fee could fund this.

I am prepared to pay to make sure that our National Parks are well looked after.

Cheers.

gidday,i thought i would ask the question because we've had a few visitors from south over the dry and all were somewhat surprised at the cost. While i agree that nobody minds paying a few bucks for the privilige of visiting a well maintained park when does it start becoming a grab for money. Having said that, i am fully aware that both parks mentioned are huge , have world heritage listing and are sensitive both culturally & enviromentally so i guess we are charged accordingly to keep the dreamtime alive. ;)
