Hi all,

Has anyone been camping/fishing in the above area? How hard is it to get to - Beacon to beacon mentions fairly shallow water.....

- is it electric only from a certain point?

- whats the best ramp to use if leaving the car for a few nights.

- are the campsites (listed 1-13 in beacon to beacon) solitary?

any other info/advice appreciated.

hmmm - might go and watch sophie fly fishing now on great outdoors......

MMMMMMMMMMMMM Sophie :P :P :P

I believe there is / was a track into Harry's. It is electric only. I've not been up that far and have put in at Boreen point and travel across the lake through the everglades. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

I don't think you can launch any boats at Harrys Hut anymore >:( - only canoes. It's run by QPWS - they'd be able to give you all the info about the area. I think Camp 4 is as far up as you can before electric only country >:( which is about 5kays past Harrys I think - it's been a while. Boreen Point would be the closest formed boat ramp. It gets shallow out the front of the everglades but it's not to bad once in there.

What do you mean by electric only?

access by electric motors only (run by 12volt battery) - zero emissions or human power.

Hi Tim

I have been into Harrys Hut by road and have also paddled in by canoe from Elanda Point. 4 X 4 is recommended on the road but you will see plenty of sedans there. Facilities are pretty good and the camp ground is quite large with seperate camp sites amongst the trees. There is fresh water and new toilets. There is no boat ramp but you can launch canoes there.

I pulled the following off the ENV Website. It may be of assistance to you or you can check the site your self at:

http://www.env.qld.gov.au/cgi-bin/w3-msql/environment/park/discover/resultframe.html?id=250

Boats, especially canoes, are the best way to explore Noosa River and get close to nature. Hire canoes or small power boats in the Noosa area, or from Everglades Camping and Boat Hire (07 5485 3164) or Elanda Point private camping area (07 5485 3165) on the shores of Lake Cootharaba.

Lake Cootharaba is the southern entrance to Cooloola’s waterways. From here, explore the more protected waters of Kin Kin Creek, upper Noosa River and its tributaries. Although shallow, Lake Cootharaba can be very rough. Plan to leave Boreen or Elanda Point in the morning when conditions are usually calm.

Power boats are allowed from the mouth of Noosa River to around Harry’s Hut. Power boats are banned upstream of campsite 3 to protect the fragile environment and wilderness nature. Power boats are restricted to 6 knots (12km/hr) with no wash on all waterways north of Kinaba Information Centre. This increases safety for canoeists and reduces bank erosion from wave wash.

It's a great place well worth the effort to get there. A local up there once told me that when the mossies are thick enough to chase you off the water, thats the time to fish for bass.

Cheers.

Hi XXXXhornet, was up there in march last year around campsite 4 and harrys hut. There is no actuall ramp at harrys hut just a jetty and a sort of slipway with big huge logs all around it, did see a small tinny launch from there though. The campsites are good enough with composting toilets and tables but thats it. Beware of the goannas to they'll tuck into ya food and rip up whatever was storing the food like it was bloody gladwrap :o >:( :o ;D

There is a track from camp4 (ithink) to a BIG sandblow and then onto the beach. It is worth the walk up to the sandblow but its like 6kms or something :o :P :o

The fishing in the river up round harrys and further would be mainly bass and tarpon i would imagine. Saw some bass last time as they swum under the canoes :o Good size too :) :) ;) Never caught any but got a few bites. There are plenty of big bream and catties, even the odd shark around the pylons of t he information centre aswell ;) :o.

Cheers, Lachie
