Hi Tim,
You planning to camp on the island or mainland ?
Remember the Island is a National Park. The National Parks people of Cardwell are very helpful. On the mainland you have Wanderers as Lucinda for Camping and some good places at Dungeness. The Pub at Lucinda has the best and the food is great. Out of Cardwell you find the Kookaburra cheap for camping and most of the motels are pretty cheap. Gould Island or Garden Island is an option at the Northern end if the weather is good.
If you need more info let me know.

Yea im planning on camping on the island. Do i just talk to national parks office up there to find out about camping permits for the island? Also would you know of any particular camp spots with easy access to some great fishing. Im thinking the channel will be our main area of fishing but its a big channel so i wouldnt know exactly where to start. Do you know what areas produce some good fish? If possible, could you maybe draw up a quik mud map of the area? Im only up there for approximatly 5 days so i want to get as much decent fishing in as possible. So any info or opinions you can give about the place is needed and appreciated. How far is it from the mainland? Is there some sort of secure parking on the mainland for the car and trailer?

Hi
The following website gives you the National Parks information on the place as well as the contact numbers for the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service in Cardwell.

Done a bit more research and from what I can find out there are two camping grounds on the island. Macushia and The Haven. Both seem pretty well set up with toilets but you need to take water with you and your own fuel stove.
Cheers.
