Water Containers

I am interested to know what does everyone use for water stoage at their camp sites?

Currently I am using a 20L square/cubed water bottle with a tap on the lid. You have to take the tap off to fill it and it can be rather heavy by the time its full!

The only problem is that to turn it on and off you twist the handle of the tap. It takes some time for the water to come out and your better off removing it, and just pouring it from the bottle itself. (the tap leaks as well, so you have to tilt the bottle, pour the water, and return to bottle to make it worthwhile)

Anyway, what does everyone else use? Or can you give me some tips/tricks?

Can you still buy the large "esky" type bottles with the screw on lid(and tap) on top and the push button tap at the bottom? They are great!

ANy info would be appreciated.

Tap on the lid ??? I use 20l as well tap is down near the bottom, screw the lid off to fill, if your tap is leaking get a new tap, its as easy as buying a bung for the boat ;)

bungs come in a variety of types, id take in what you got to a camp shop and tell them to fix it.

Yes Rob, I have one of those 8 litre esky bottle thingies.

Coleman make them, so I suppose Camp Mart and places like that will sell them.

You can actually buy 10ltr rectangular shaped drinking water containers from Coles & Wollies. They have spring / mineral water in them. Stack nicely into the boat or 4bee.

Erm...confusing seems to be ruling :P

On the 20L bottle, where the handle is, is where the opening is located. And thats where the tap is.

There is also another little bung thingy down the bottom as well. But it doesn't leak there.

Soo...think of it this way. you lift the bottle, fill it with water, then put the tap/lid back on, turn it on its side and then for water you just twist the tap to one side for on, and the other for off.

Erm...have i just made everyone more confuzzled? :P

gotcha ;) id be looking at why its leaking, might be a seal or something simple, might not be able to get a replacement if it only fits that container, to get good water flow I think it needs the lid open when you turn the tap, with mine you unscew the top lid then turn the tap at the bottom.

I think you'll find you can replace that bung on the bottom with a tap. It's just a threaded hole.

I've seen the lids witrh taps. You're better off replacing the lid with tap to a straight lid and getting a straight tap for the bung hole.

Will cost you about $5 for an camping store.

Yeah thats what I've done. I got a tap for the bung hole. I'll be at Cania in a few weeks so it will be the time to test it!

Hi there, I use 20ltr rectangular bottles (plastic jerry cans) in a can holder on my trailer.. I got hold of a hand pump, the sort you see in caravan sinks..I use black 1/2inch poly pipe you use in the garden sprinkler systems, cut to reach the bottom of the can...I also use a length(with a few elbows) to run it to my "kitchen sink" Works a treat, hope this can help Regards Steve

I use an ex-military 20l water jerry can and I just lift it up and pour it out. My tap never leaks.
