Hey all,

Does anyone want to divulge some good 2wd accessible camping spots.

I'm looking at Bush camping and by the beach camping (with boat).

Preferably with nobody else around (ie not a busy site or caravan park).

I have seen a lot of good camping books around but they dont seem to take into account the type of vehicle recommended for getting there (ie national parks etc)

cheers

Plenty of spots in northern nsw that fit the bill but most arent that quiet anymore, forget about the school holidays. If you are taking the boat here are I couple I would recommend - Fingal (camp at the caravan park on the beach, they have a back paddock separate from the caravans just for camping and its close access to the tweed and offshore, likewise kingscliff.
Yamba/illuka - Plenty of spots, look at woody head to start.
And my favourite, the national park at Minnie water, right on the beach and great access to offshore fishing. And beach/rock/estuary

It's getting very hard to find a place that fits what you are looking for. Even what used to be out of the way places are now getting very busy.

When you say bush camping are you looking at going fishing as well or just getting away. If so most of the National Parks and State Forests in the south east are accessible by 2 wheel drive. Not only that out of season a lot of the coastal caravan parks are pretty good as well.

If you want to go bush then I suggest you might want to look at the Jimna and Kenilworth State Forests. Peach Trees Camp Ground at Jimna is still one of my favourites.

A place I can recommend on the coast is Inskip Point. Camping ground is spot on and right on the beach. A good quiet caravan park on the coast is Boonaroo inside the Great Sandy Strait between Tin Can Bay and Maryborough.

There is a great little book that might help you called Camping in Queensland (I think we must be about up to the 7th edition now) that is put out by Government. It's available in most Newsagents and camping shops and lists National Parks, State Forests and Water Reserves in Queensland. Not only that it will tell you if you need a 4X4 to get there.

Cheers.

I have to agree with Derek on Inskip Point. I spent a week there (MV Sarawak campground) last May, towed a 14ft tinny with our 2wd drive and had no problems. Although the main 2wd park is busy, we found a quiet place across from the beach. Excellent facilities for bush camping, clean toilets, food van comes around every morning.

I put the boat in at the ramp at Bullock Head, about a 10min drive away. Next time I will try to stay at the little camp ground at the very end of the bitumen road at Inskip (on the southern side of the point) and then I can leave the boat in the water at the back of the tent!

Sometimes I forget they named that place after me although it's Bullock Point and not Head. :-X :-X :-X
