I wonder If anyone can help me - I'm looking for camping spots within a couple of hours of Cairns - kinda out of the way type places where you can fish, take your dogs and hopefully not see anyone else.

Anybody know of such locations? [smiley=angel.gif]

Thanx if you do

Used to often go to Uramo station, at Innet Hot Springs (sorry bout the spelling). We used to often go in there, only a couplea hours from cairns, on the herbert river? I think it was the herbert! SOrry bout not knowing anything bout it! It was a really good place, lotsa camp grounds, most of teh camp areas were large enough for a number of families, but only small enough for one camp (if that makes sense :-/). Fishing was awsome for sooties, dogs used to have a ball, real good for swiming to!

A while ago, the owners of the station closed it as they were having problems with campers on their property. But from what i've heard, they are letting people on their property again. Best bet is to contact the servo at Innet, and see if they are letting people camp there. Other than that, Cape tribulation? Nice up there, can generally find somewhere to camp out of teh way

sorry not much help!!!!

yep that's correct. Also the Mitchell river near Mt Carbine. Not so good fishing but great camping and a few red claw for a feed. Blencoe falls near Cardwell is worth a look to as is the banks of lake tinaroo. Don't forget your fishing permit for the time.
Cheers, Mark.

Yeah, blencoe is awsome. Haven't been there in ages, but yeah, the water fall is something to see!!!!!!! 'cept one time we went up there, put the cruiser on it's side in a big washout! O well, was only like 6, so dad had to get the old girl out himself! ;D

At least with tinaroo, it's FINALLY over again! Last time i checked, it was 101%, so that's good!

Yep she's trickling over the spillway. Just have to wait for the weed beds to grow back so the mouth almighty's will come back so we don't have to troll everywhere ;)

There are two great little books available called 'Exploring Queensland Parks and Forests' and 'Camping in Queensland'. Both put out by the EPA and available for purchase online at http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/shop/cp-app.cgi?usr=51F7239990&rnd=1642761&rrc=N&affl=&cip=203.221.71.44&act=&aff=&pg=prod&ref=PLU4089&cat=&catstr= #

Both show great camping spots around Cairns and the Tablelands.

As at 30 May check out the discounts and free offer if you buy them online.

Cheers.
