View Full Version : Burrum Heads Beach Front Tourist Park
Hi All,
In an earlier thread, I was looking for suggestions on where to take the little bloke on a father & son trip in the September school holidays.
This place looks to have everything I'm after (apart from open fires that I suppose we can live without). The tinnie ramp is a good selling point.
Thanks for the info Horse (Neil).
Has anyone ever been that could let me know if it's as good as it says on the tin? Also, it seems that Spetember is low-season, so does this mean it won't be too busy?
Thanks for the advice.

hey mike
have found burrum to be fairly busy most school holidays, and probally a place i would avoid but thats me i know a few mates who go down christmas holidays at peak and still manage to do alright with the fish and crabs.
There is a fair bit for u to explore if you've never been, would suggest sticking to within a couple of k's of the boat ramp and checkout the banks and creeks in this area, they to do turn up a lot of good fish.
Also just ask when you're down most local shop owners know a bit about whats going on and will normally share it with you.
hope that helped

you have just picked the best spot (burrum heads) the tourist park is only small but the location has a lot to offer and its on the water safe swimming -shops -bowling club -parks -BBQ areas -boat ramps - all your needs in a small quiet coastal town. I forgot to mention fishing ;its great flathead -bream -queenfish- prawns plenty of muddies up the river.
the only problem is I will be at burrum heads in the first week in september and I would have caught all the fish LOL :D
cheers and enjoy burrum

Hi Mike
Yes the Hillcrest Caravan Park at Burrum Heads is a great one. If sand flies are a problem to you make sure you camp as far away from the river and up the hill as you are able. In fact book a site as soon as you can because it does get busy.
Another place that will meet all your requirements and where they have places for a fire is the Boonooroo Caravan Park on the Sandy Straits south of Maryborough. Only problem there are the sand flies. Then again you can get them anywhere near water. The fire bins are old washing machine inners. Has a ramp for your tinny and you can even leave it tied to the bank. Great for the young bloke fishing off the bank, plenty of yabbies close by and heaps of fish in the channels.
Cheers
Derek
Thanks Derek,
It wasn't the Hillcrest I was looking at, it's called the Burrum Heads Beachfront Tourist Park which is a different place. The Hillcrest isn't on the beach as far as I can tell, whereas this one is on the beach and the river.
I'd already booked it, as the tinny ramp was the selling point. I've just found out that even though it's a small boat, the ramp won't take trailers (only boats on wheels), but "real" ramps are nearby and I can moor it at the park riverfront if I want.
Never mind, I'm sure we'll have a ball. If I can get the little bloke into camping, I'm giggling. Getting brownie points from the wife while doing something I really enjoy will be a novel experience [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

there is a esplande type public path right along the waterfront, the park fronts onto this path and well its not really on the beach but on the river and has a rubble rock wall, very pretty spot but i would not try swimming right there, its only a 5min walk up or down stream to nice safe places for the little bloke to swim, you can fish anywhere along the rock wall and beach, boat ramps are on the streets either side of the park so not to far to lauch the boat.
the area suffers bad from exposure to northly winds, as long as the wind gods are kind to you, the you should have a great time there.
cheers

The ramp has a winch that you can wind a small trailer down the ramp with if you really want but boat ramps are only a minute drive either way. Great spot but take what you need if you can as supplies are limited

Burrum Heads Boring Boring take the kid up to 1770 and show him a real holiday or Agnes Waters. Port Douglas and Burrum Heads were the two towns in Australia that evicted my family simply because we had a bus converted to a motorhome and didn't require accomodation. Spend your money somewhere else.
