Hi, There is a no camping rule except for the private & council run parks for the whole of the coast in the Livingstone Shire. The real out of the way spots should be OK but along the beaches gets checked every morning. One warning then $375 fine so they informed me. I haven't been back. The fishing can be great. Bill
Greg, have you got a 4WD? boat?
There's a lot of places within an hour or two of Rocky that are pretty good.
Get a hold of the Dirty Weekends in Central Queensland book. If you have 4WD, there's some bloody good spots listed in tere with directions too.
Close by there are Council and other caravan parks dotted along the coast Causeway Lake, Malumbin Beach, Yeppoon, Keppel Sands, Emu Park.
If you have 4WD or boat there's Corio Bay to the north, Keppel Islands about 15Km out, Nine Mile Beach in Byfield Nat Park (camping permit $3.50 per person per night or family rate ~$16 I think?)
Let us know if you have a boat, 4WD and what facilities you're looking for, maybe we can fine tune the list for ya.
Hope this is of help,
Paul

Also Greg, what sort of camping do you want to do? Do you just want to get away from it all, or are you looking for Van Parks? Do you want to take the family and kids, or are you looking for a boys weekend?
Cheers
Corry
