has anyone been overseas fishing? as well as travelling around australia I have the chance to go to Canada and do some fishing over there but am not sure about talikg my own gera with me or buying some if and when I get there, has anyone had any trouble with taking gear through customs ? I'd like to get to NZ sometime as well and fish some of their rivers and lakes anyone been there that could give me a tip or three.

Mate pick your fishing gear over there its so cheep!. I did some great fish over there for brown and had a ball. I was also lucky to fish for tigers in South Africa this year man can they fight.

You will not have any trouble at all taking your fishing equipment through Customs and Quarantine, except there are a few things to keep in mind.
If you have any fishing knives they must be single edged (not dagger style and under 400mm), just your ordinary fishing knives are ok.
If you are a fly fisherman with Australian made fly's etc thats fine to bring back through, although you must still declare them as feathers/ parts of animals if that is what they are made of. All that will happen is that they will have a quick look at them and make sure no flesh etc from the bird is still on them.
Last tip is to get a length of PVC pipe etc to carry your rods in, the bagge boys dont mess around! Always good to right on the pipe "fragile" and "top load only".
