Picked up my new boat just prior to Christmas and have now had a few good chances to give it a good shakedown. I must say I am extremely impressed with this hull. Given that most boats are a compromise in some way I have so far found this one to nail exactly what the missus and I have been needing. A safe, stable fishing / day boat (with a few luxuries) that will also get us wide for extended trips away. It's built by a company in Redhead (near Newcastle) who predominantly build award winning off-road campers (BRS Offroad) but have decided to dip their toes in to the boat building game (Slayer Vessels).
The hull is a quadraxial chopped strand fibreglass construction. All stringers and flooring comprise of PVC foam with laminated sides. Hull is foam filled front to back around the 3 tanks.
A 17 degree deadrise with oversized lifting strakes and a long keel / planing plank provide a very soft, stable and predictable ride especially through short chop.I was a little hesitant at the somewhat shallow deadrise for the regular offshore runs we do but the first trip quickly settled my concerns. Offshore capability is not soley dictated by deadrise angle it would seem.
Here's a full rundown of the rest of the jewellery the new rig has hanging off it. You'll see not too many stones were left unturned.

1 x 85 litre fresh water tank

That looks stunning. It's always dicey when you get a new boat, specially a new new boat such as this. We've been looking at the same style of boat, going in to Hooker in the next couple of weeks to start talking to them.
Interested in seeing more of the console if you could throw up some more pics, storage, front set up etc.
Well done, will be looking for more reports coming from it now you have it, what area do you predominantly fish... as in NSW, Northern QLD, NT?

Certainly a nice looking boat and easy to see why it cuts through the chop better then your old Formosa...its got a nice sized console and hardtop as well..I'm sure that beast of a motor pushs her along nicely too...she will be great for long distance QLD reef trips...

Pretty envious of the trailer as well..it looks like a beauty..!

I found on my centre cab hardtop that i was able to fit 8 rod holders as we often take that many outfits for reef trips and I mounted my rear deck lights so they could be adjusted to illuminate the deck directly below..

Was that the first one out of the mould..?..It certainly has an interesting pedigree if my cut and paste below from Boatsales.com is anything to go by.....

Is that vinyl attached to the sides of the console..?..is that just for aethetics..?

Are you going to get some clears made up..?

Also on a new build why would they just add a pod instead of extending the hull full width..?.

How did the price compare to the equivalent sized Hooker...?

Mate it also says that youtube link is private....I was hoping to see a video of it doing the claimed 44 knots in 1.5m chop...;)

Hull ( Mold ) originated from a company called Barra bay boats and found sleeping on a farm by BRS offroad, a new side venture to the BRS offroad Camper company Called ( now fully registered Boat building company )Hull consists of a 17 deg deadrise with oversized lifting strakes and a long keel turned plaining plank ) This hull is incredible stable and soft riding, tested in Darwin, yeppon, lake Mac and off shore of Swansea. Proven results of 44 knts in 1.5 m Chop

We are based in Brisbane on the bayside so most of what we do is in the bay or offshore off Cape Moreton.
I'll get a few pics of the console for you this week.

These guys cut their teeth in off-road towing. Whilst the trailer is designed for the highway it's still over engineered (absolute peace of mind)

Admittedly the Slayer is lacking in storage for rods etc. Easily fixed with some under gunwale rod, gaff & gun holders from Plaztek (another superb Aussie company). Lighting on the deck is not an issue with this setup.

Yep, first one out of the mould. Yes it was a gamble taking on the first build however it already had 50 hours under it when I purchased it. I had also given it a decent water test a month before committing. In fairness to the design and their work, they have not changed a single thing on their latest one.

Is that vinyl attached to the sides of the console..?..is that just for aethetics..?
That is more of the padded marine vinyl (Cordova). I'd suggest it's there for looks more than function.

Are you going to get some clears made up..?
Possibly. The missus and I are pretty heavily in to spearfishing so we've always got wetsuits and masks on board for the average weather. The console offers suprisingly good protection though (obviously not as good as clears would).

Also on a new build why would they just add a pod instead of extending the hull full width..?
That would be a questions for the builder however the duckboard area it offers is invaluable to us when spearing.

How did the price compare to the equivalent sized Hooker..
I'm not sure how much a 7m Hooker (loaded with the fruit) goes for sorry. If you give me a rough idea I can tell you if it's close (I'm abundantly aware I scored an amazing deal on this boat though)

Mate it also says that youtube link is private....I was hoping to see a video of it doing the claimed 44 knots in 1.5m chop...
Link should be fixed now. I would question that speed claim..... it will do 44 knots quite easily but I've only done this on a calm day. That 250 Merc is something else!

Barra Bay boats have quite some history. The builder is also mates with a prominent Aussie builder (whose name escapes me for now) who assisted along the way.

Yeah its a very nice console setup you have and should protect your electronics nicely... ....This is a brand new 675 Hooker and I'm not a fan of the roof/windscreen setup..I think the electronics and people would get drenched during a 70-80 km trip out ot back to the reef with wind and spray from side-on...and with probably no real way of adding clears to prevent it...I wear glasses and always chuck the clears on if I'm likely to get a face full of spray..plus my experience of centre consoles in the winter is that they suck with no protection...

BTW how do you get back on the duckboard...I cant see a ladder or grabrail..?..and no transom door..Thats a strange one..?

Whats the story with Barra bay boats..?..Did they build many boats..?..I have not heard of them before...were they made in QLD..?

Protection from the elements was the one thing we were certain we were losing out on when going from a half cabin. In the end, the pros outweighed the cons.

So far we can quite easily pull ourselves up on the duckboards as they sit quite low. We may consider throwing a ladder on one day but for now I like it clean. And you're right, no transom door but the step in to the boat over the live wells is really quite easily done.

This is 1 of 3 moulds originally out of Norway designed as working boats. Now, I'm likely to butcher this story but they were brought here by a company who ultimately fell apart. There was talk that Steve Starling was somehow involved (not the dodgy stuff). People were owed money, things went missing... all that bad stuff then one day years later the boys from BRS Offroad came across the last remaining mould sitting on a farm in NSW.
I'll get the rundown again from the builder the next time I'm speaking with him as I do recall it being a decent yarn.....

Awesome looking boat, there was a post here recently where the ladder tucked in under the rear duckboard, it would be perfect for you as it wouldn't detract from the vessels neat lines. I'll see if I can find the post later when I'm on the laptop, can't seem to locate things easily on the phone on this forum since the last upgrade.

Edit: surprisingly I found it, all the good stuff is on Giddyup58 post on his rebuild. Have a look at post #153 below

From my research lately, the 675 Hooker is around $140k pretty bare, just hull, 250hp Merc and basic trailer. This is without ticking any options boxes, or adding any electronics or elec motors etc.

Yeah thats a fair chunk of change. I didn't pay that much. Although keep in mind mine is #1 from a new builder and purchased used (albeit with very minimal testing use).

Apologies for the late response, been a busy few weeks.Pics of the console / storage attached. The space had a head sitting in there but the missus and kid are more than happy to hang off the back of the boat so I felt it was better suited to remove it and free up the space for storage.126551 126552 126553 126554

They're a lot neater with their wiring than others I've seen.

Looks great. Hope the seal on the seat/hatch on the front of the console is good.
