So now that I’ve got a couple of young boys I thought I’d get a few crab pots and try catching crabs for a bit of fun.
We are staying at Bribie Island for the long weekend so here goes nothing. I dropped the pots out this afternoon to soak overnight with the high tide and then took the boys to some mangroves for a bit of exploring. To my surprise we found a couple of muddies in a hole on the mud flats so we took the buck and left the Jenny and her shell she had just shed in their hole.
One crab in the bucket and haven’t lifted one pot yet.[emoji106]

So I lifted the pots this morning for two legal sandies and again this afternoon for another two legal sandies.
Quite a few females full of eggs at the moment.

Yep called that up here also but we're a laid back bunch so we go with the short version of Sandies.

We get a lot of these blue swimmers in our port hacking river but traps are not permitted we usually pull them up on rods unbelieveable they just will not let go of the bait on the hook must be a tough world down there for food lol

Well for first time crabbers we ended up with 12 Sandies from the pots and 1 Muddie by hand over the 3 days. We pulled them up once in the morning and once in the afternoon.
Was good for a change but unfortunately my wife and I are allergic so I gave my mate a good bucket of crabs for a feed.

Gonna hijack the thread for a minute. Apologies.
A bloke once told me that when the sandies are thick and taking baits while fishing, tie a pair of stockings around your swivel and let them dangle around your hook.
The crabs spikes get tangled in them and you don't drop them.
Don't know if it works or even if it's legal. I don't chase crabs.
Anyone else heard or tried this?
Or brave enough to maybe get caught out by a mate (or wife) finding stockings in your boat. Better than a bra and knickers I guess.
Cheers
