Been a while since I last reported, been a couple of fish since then with a new PB.

Back on the 12th of this month I headed out just after midnight to the mouth of the Brisbane river. Fished all through dark for not even a touch. Just after sunrise I had port security come and move me on, that was it I thought, decided to go and sit near the chute and start packing up. Saw what looked like some ok fish on the sounder and anchored pretty much over them.
Within 20 minutes had a 116cm thready in the boat after an awesome fight.
Within 15 minutes I then hooked up to my new PB thready at 123cm in the boat.
Packed up and went home after that.

There was a midweek trip after that at some point, the result from this trip was a broken knot and a very unhappy fisherman.

I headed out last night (Sunday night) hoping that the South East wind would let me fish the wharf without any trouble.
Out on the water around 8pm, plenty of good size banana prawns hanging around the banks, first cast I got about 6 big ones and was managing a few each cast after, biggest went 25cm.
Started sounding around and found what I thought was a school of smaller sized fish, didn't really make much sense to me at the time, but anchored up and managed a 92cm salmon almost straight away. Then 10 minutes later the rod with the mullet on it started bouncing around, I waited and waited but it kept bouncing, eventually I picked it up and gave it some, had weight for a few moments and then nothing. Was a clean cut but about 50cm away from the hook. I am guessing the bait may have swam back along the line and whatever took it got a mouthful of line at the same time, also guessing it was a pike eel as it didn’t run.

Fished there for another hour and watched about 3 big arches move through, the bait would start getting scared and then the fish would move on and bait would settle back down, no hits.

Spent a bit more time sounding around, eventually decided I would anchor on a show which looked like 2 ok fish. Dropped a mullet down and it was scared straightaway, Only fished with the one line as I was pretty certain with the show and the way the mullet was that something was going to hit it. Only had to wait a couple of minutes and I was on. Fought the fish for a few minutes and felt like an ok jewie but the hook pulled... damn... Re baited and sent it back down and put a prawn down. Prawn had a decent hit and run but it dropped the bait and didn't come back. Close to 2am had the jewie in the picture take the mullet and fought above its weight class. Happy with that so packed up and went home, was a good night on the river.

Did have a couple crabbing trips, from 8 pots overnight soak got 25 sandies and then a week later, 12 pots overnight only got 15 but the pots were much shallower.

The floor in the boat is only 1.2m wide, so it was wider than the floor which made things interesting.
