Fished / crabbed the "pin" yesterday for some unusual results. The plan was to fish the run out tide for whiting and set the pots for sandies along the dropoffs.Whilst waiting for tide to drop to pump yabbies ,I drifted the sandbanks for Flatties using whitebait which usually produces.Nothing.Anchored at Kalinga bank looking for Bream.Nothing.Once the tide had dropped enough,i went the secret yabby bank (just a bit harder to access) where 4-5 big yabbies per pump is the norm. Not today but only 1 yabby for every two pumps.Anyway got enough yabbies and went to Gold bank and could not raise a fish.Checked the pots after 2 hr soak using fresh mullet for 1 undersize sandy and muddy.Got the shits, pulled the pots and headed up towards the Slipping sands.Ended up with 6 good Whiting but still no crabs.Should of had a least a dozen of each.
I think the heat over the past few days may of had an effect on the fish, yabbies and crabs.
I wonder with the heat the yabbies have gone deeper?
The Whiting would only bite once a slow retriveve was used so they must of been a bit lazy.A bit like me when it is hot.
I set the pots in up to 11 ft of water thinking deeper will be cooler. No good.
All the usual tricks left me scratching my head.
Thanks

A mate was out for a crab up the pin today and where it was tough going, they ended up with 10 between them.

Cheers

Bad side of the moon is the main culprit for you......peak bite periods are small peaks and not during your fishing hours.
Tomorrow the bite periods start to merge for better results and longer bite times mid to late morning.

Not the only one. Fished the Broadwater on the weekend. Ended up with 16 whiting ranging from 28-33cm. Tough work on an overnighter to get that many. Also set the pots in the same place as I did in the corresponding weekend last year and only got one sandie. Last year got 18 large sandies. Not sure what is going on
