I had a few hours to kill on the Friday before school holidays started, so I thought I would head out and have a bit of a fish. Being the middle of the day (10.00am-2.00pm) and an incoming tide I thought it might be a slow, but I was keen to try out a soft vide lure on the humble flathead. I have used these lures up north, and they have been great on everything from Barra to Fingermark and everything in between, and figured the smaller 70 mm version would work well in the local waters. The soft vibe I used was a 70 mm Vibalicious, I'm sure the other brands work just as well.
I flicked the lure for 30 mins, with no luck, not even a tap. Then I changed my technique, and slowed my lift right down, and paused a little longer between lifts. Straight away I had success. I ended up with 7 Flathead for the day, not bad for the Maroochy river in the middle of the day.
I was using 6 lb line, with 11lb leader (about 1.5 meters). Slow lift of the rod tip, feel the flutter of the vibe, drop the tip, let the vibe hit the bottom while winding up the slack, count of 2 then repeat. I know many readers will already know this, just thought I would mention it for those new to vibe fishing.
Cheers
