Spent the day down the pin today. Lovely morning after a rainy night. Clear skies and calm winds until about 11 am. Ever better there were hardly any people in the area I was fishing until after lunch. There were plenty of flatties about. Got a new PB of 94 cm on a 3" minnow and 1/0 jig hook at 7 am and lost another big one later which straightened the hook. Got 28 flatties altogether and kept 4 around 50-65 cm for dinner. Water was very clear (unlike 2 weeks ago) which made the fish shy.

Nice fish Jeremy. Red hot session by the sounds of things. The place has certainly been going ok of late.

Forgot to add I saw an absolute beast of a flathead later in the day. I was wading in clear water and got to within 2m of it. Looked at it trying to work out what it was and then slowly and then faster it took off. I thought it was a big white spot shovel when it first started to move, but the head was rounded and not pointed and the fins and tail were flathead. Was every bit of 110 cm and could have easily gone 125 cm. The head alone was at least 30 cm wide.

I cast from the boat as well as walking the bank during the day. Got this one while I was walking.

Those biig mummas you see have eaten numerous of the smaller flatties i have been hooked up to in the past. It has happened that regularly that i reckon small flattys must be high on their list of targets! Ben

Funny you say that about cannibalism , I caught a flathead around 45cm this morning and as I lifted on board it spat out a small flathead around 10cm long , the head end of the small flathead was part digested to about 4 cm from head down, so this guy couldn't even get his lunch down his belly but he was still on the hunt for more...

Enviable flatty, GOOD STUFF! Must have been a few nervous moments when you got him close.
What size leader were you using?
Cheers

I was using 8 lb fluorocarbon leader and a 1/0 jighook. Fortunately I pinned it in the edge of the lip and the hook shank was taking the abrasion. Took me 4-5 goes with the net. Not easy solo.
