Well, a quick precursor to the report: I have had my new boat for about 4 months, and while i have put plenty of mates and even the wife on to legal fish I was still fish less on my own boat, not for lack of trying either!

Wasn't sure if I was actually gonna head out, so I didn't organize any of the regular crew, decided I'd set the alarm and see how I felt. 3am alarm goes off, decided that I went to all the trouble to get the boat ready so better go; fast forward a hour twenty and I'm anchored at Harries with only a hand full of boats.

I set three lines, Half a gar on one, Full gar on gangs and then a Octa Jig out the back, then I wait, decided I might get a Kip so lay down for about 15 minutes then I'm woken by a screaming reel!

Race up, and the start to work it in, after a minute or so, line is bit through! Bugger!! re-rig quick as I can, it was the half gar on a 5/0 circle with a size 2 sinker, got it back out as quick as I could...

15 minutes later at about 6:15am the line starts peeling off.. you ripper!! After a nervous (It had been about 4 months & there were dolphins making a commotion) fight of about 5+Minutes I saw what was defiantly my PB start to emerge from the depths, netted it and on the boat! Not bad for the first legal fish on the new boat just hope i don't need to wait that long for the next one.

Went 72cm and is dinner for the next 3 days! Waited out till about 7:30am and headed back home (there was about 25 boats there by this stage). Boat cleaned and fish filleted by 9:30!

Side note: I have caught quite a few feeds in the last 4 months, they just hadn't been on my boat!

Nice fish! Top work. I got a few about that size myself on Saturday evening but I was a long way offshore. To get a fish like that in the bay always just makes your day.
