Although I have been doing okay fishing the surf, a trip to Point Halloran beckoned on Monday – the late afternoon and evening. The early run up tide around dusk produced a couple of choppers to keep, with one a reasonable solid fish, and a flathead. A couple more just legal tailor went back. After a break waiting for the tide to come in, it was time to turn my attention to bream. After a slow start, I scratched up a few with flesh baits being the most effective. There were more bream there to catch if I wanted them, but I had what I needed so I called it quits. A lone whiting, a nice fish of 38 cm on yabbies rounded out the catch. The key to catching the bream at this location is a light lead – down to a 00 usually. It's also best if you keep bright lights off the water.
