Decided to fish morning tide change and come home early.
At 5.30 am, Peter (rainbowrunner), myself and Kaimen (Peter's son) left the ramp with a cool breeze.
Managed to get some bait and head in to the bay for the tide change.
I was getting ready for the first drift and there were many birds sitting on the water few hundred metres in front of us without any action.
Just started the drift and few minutes later all the birds started working on a bait school crazy.
Easily 4-5000 birds circling, we can see the boil but the birds were so thick that we couldn't get a line in, tangling with birds instead.
Doing few drifts on the spot, immediate double hook up for myself and Peter.
Got tangled and my braid cut Peter's mono, leaving the deck empty to me to fight.
Result was 20.5kg long tail tuna, my pb in the bay.
Second drift and Kaimen hooks up to a freight train on light 20lb gear, had to chase this one.
20 mins later fish come side of the boat many times and pissed off again. Easily 20kg long tail again.
Braid failed after a long fight, what a disappointment for Kaimen + he had to listen us giving to him for the rest of the day about how big his fish was.
3rd drift, double hook up on my side again.
First line brakes off little later as the fish taken off at warp speed on heavy drag.
Other rod still going, after a short fight about 17kgs long tail is landed successfully.
Few more drifts but fish moved on or shut down by the tide change.
Finished up and head back in by 10.30am.
Overall 5 long tail hook ups, 2 landed.
One of the best fishing days in the bay.
