I have been working over on North Stradbroke Island and have managed to squeeze a couple of hours of fishing in. It is not my favourite time of the year to be fishing in the Bay, but I found a few land based squire. They are great fun off the shore on light leads. There were plenty of throwbacks in the 30 to 35 cm fish but they're were enough legal fish mixed in with them to make it worthwhile. Quite a few legal fish went back as well once I reached the limit. Along with the squire there were a few leatherjackets and silver trevally, as well as the usual bream and tarwhine.
You should not think that you need the latest and greatest boat and equipment to catch legal squire in Moreton Bay.

That particular fish was a failed contestant on The Biggest Loser - Squire Edition.

Whaaaaaa! And to think that I've been faffing around with pike from the bloody jetty! Top effort. You're doing well.

Did you keep the leatherjackets Daryl? Never tried one from up this way but when I was in Perth I used to spear the things - they aren't big but they were very, very, tasty. One of the best fish I had eaten.

The leatherjackets went back this time but I have eaten them in the past. I rate them a pretty good fish.
Well done, there are some nice fish to be found in those parts, if the dolfins don't get em.They go hard from shore.Keep up the good work

Yes I was at Amity using bait - squid during the day and pillies at night. Floating the bait down with light leads.
Very cool, I use similar but from the kayak nearer the main land.

Good stuff as usual Daryl. Think I might sell the boat or certainly not upgrade to anything fancy.
Love your reports.

My fishing hasn't looked back since I went back to being land based and have saved a heap of money, and have avoided ramp rage. There are a dozens of land based spots in Moreton Bay that consistently produce fish during the right time of the year with the common denominator always be to fish with very light leads and light line.
