Went for a run to comp adj bouy area to chase some whiting.
all the kids were out playing today. Small winter whiting, baby squire, catfish and a 47cm spottie.
So was hoping the crabs were crawling into the pots back at woody point.
8 pots for 3 crabs.
not a productive day.
would kill for a nice big feed of sandies.
Time to crab elsewhere. None at woody point.
cheers

What depth you been crabbing in Greg?
We did some searching yesterday, they were not in any water deeper than about 4m, so shifted our pots into the 2-3m zone near Peel and got a dozen when we lifted them at first light today and another 15 when we picked up the pots to bring them home just after lunch. Nice quality too.
i often find that the bigger tides bring better crabs. Last night was only a small H tide, this morning's H was a nice big one peaking around lunchtime.

bad luck greg. We had a dud day out also on the fishing. The crabs sure are scarce around there. Picked my pots up late this morning, they were surrounded by 20+ pro traps. I managed just 2 from 2 pots, prob same spot as you.

We crabbed the central banks last night in depths between 3m to 8m and got about 100 crabs with only 2 keepers.
There was a real variety of crabs with female and under sized sandys being the majority of the catch but with a few red spots, a small spanner another crab that im not real sure about and a hermit crab that got lost.
We did get a good feed of snapper offshore during the night as a consolation.
