Nice fish Astro but please tell/educate your son to support the body weight of big fish, as hanging her by her jaws on grips will most likely cause a slow death. They are tough fish but why take a chance?

Sounds like the river was alive with all types of marine creatures in on the act.

yeah i know peter....hes a girl and wont touch them lol...quick lift up...pic ...back into the water...slowly getting him to hang on but he wont on the big fish but he will hold a jack with razor sharp teeth...

There are heaps of big flatties around 80cm up ....breeding season? or just the hot weather ? only the smaller flattie had roe and none of the mullet had roe all males ?.... i dont take flatties very often 99% go back and i hate taking them over 60cm but they taste so good :P

The jacks had my number wayno ....i couldnt win a trick ...took me into the pylons ...shredded the mullet only to let go and not come back...couple of bite offs ...i think sometimes they really aren't that hungry and they just kill the mullet because its swimming past ...probably went through 30 mullet from 150mm to 500mm ...most of the big mullet taken by flathead..

Yeah, have to be sharks, or a decent cod or Pike Eel taking the really big mullet I would have thought. I don't think he meant they were all taken by flatties and jacks, though, anyway.

Either way you're carving them up, Astro, so keep up the reports! A few of my livies lately have been meeting the same fate - chopped heads but not eating them. The jacks are p%ssed at least ha!

all the big flathead in the last few weeks are taken on big mullet...300...400...500mm mullet ... half have them swallowed and i mean the whole fish ...the bigger mullet go out for jew but they pick up jack as well .....you would be surprised what the jacks can do to a bait in two bites
We run 4 rods ....one out really long with a big mullet on ....one out medium size ...one out with small ...one out with herring ....wait to see what is getting smashed ....if the herring are getting hammered swap another line over ...if the small mullet are on swap to small....pretty easy
Last year it was all herring ....i couldnt give a mullet away ....but easter(10 days off and at least 15 jacks and 10 jew caught on big mullet) this year it changed and i couldnt put a mullet in the water without it getting smashed....weve just found with herring you pick up a lot of smaller fish that we arnt after...
I have been away in moranbah for the last 6 years ...only fishing once a month if i was lucky enough to be home for longer then two days ....working for a local company now so i get to go when ever i feel like it ....fish the right tides...fish the right moon ...
