Mate and myself hit the Rouse this morning for a feed of winteries.
Hard to find at the start but by mid afternoon we had 66 nice fat ones from 25cm to 28cm.

We usually fish before u get to the red marker. Depth usually about 16 ft then drops off quickly to about 30 ft.
The time before last trip, we anchored, just when we got one. That worked.
SAme yesterday. As soon as we got a couple, we anchored, then got a quick 20. When no more bites, do the drift again, then anchor when u get a couple.
we now find this is the best way.

Thanks for the replies Fellas....As Seahorse has said you have to look for a patch of them by drifting around.
It takes time and patience but the rewards are there if you persist.
Nothing better than fresh whiting fillets.

Like Aquarius we found they where patchy in the Rous but today after moving around they came thick and fast with good size to them and got 70 and some squid, for us they didnt like the live worms today as much as fresh squid.
Creat as Aquarius said you have to try a few spots and edges and move till you find them and i would avoid other boats if possible and find your own areas and try changing things if things arent happening for you.
There are heaps of banks little gutters and holes all up and down Rous, great part of the bay to explore and a great feed of whiting is a bonus.
